Role Overview
The Shift Engineer is responsible for the reliable and efficient operation of fully automatic PLC-based and pneumatic production machines. This role emphasizes disciplined preventive maintenance, accurate alignment, and continuous process enhancement in line with Kaizen and 5S manufacturing principles.
Equipment Oversight
The core equipment includes fully automatic ultrasonic welding machines, automatic gas filling machines, automatic flame adjustment machines, and automatic sticker & label pasting machines—all of which are automated with PLC controls and pneumatic drives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain PLC-controlled pneumatic automation systems ensuring their stable functionality.
- Execute scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
- Carry out alignment, calibration, and precise adjustments on ultrasonic welding heads, gas filling units, and labelling mechanisms.
- Replace deteriorated or faulty parts, maintaining accurate records of such actions.
- Ensure continuous machine availability, process stability, and adherence to safety standards.
Maintenance Planning and Documentation
- Create and follow a maintenance schedule for all automatic machines.
- Document breakdowns, repairs, and replacements thoroughly.
- Manage spare parts inventory to guarantee availability of critical components.
- Generate periodic reports detailing maintenance activities, downtime, and improvement measures.
Quality and Process Management
- Maintain superior process quality in welding, gas filling, and labeling processes.
- Coordinate with the Quality Assurance team to consistently meet BIS and internal benchmarks.
- Utilize Poka-Yoke and Root Cause Analysis to eradicate recurring issues.
Workplace Discipline and Leadership
- Lead by example to uphold discipline, punctuality, and proper operation methods among machine operators.
- Conduct comprehensive shift handovers with complete documentation of machine and production states.
- Foster a workplace culture based on responsibility, respect, and teamwork.
5S Implementation
- Maintain workplace order using 5S principles: sorting, systematic arrangement, cleanliness, standardization, and sustaining discipline.
Continuous Improvement (Kaizen)
- Identify and initiate small but impactful enhancements in quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Take part in Gemba walks to observe and optimize operations.
- Help update Standard Operating Procedures and contribute to operator training development.
Qualifications Required
- Diploma or B.E. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Between 2 and 5 years experience working with PLC- and pneumatic-based automation, preferably in assembly lines or FMCG sectors.
- Technical knowledge in Ultrasonic Welding, Pneumatic Circuits, sensors, and PLC controls.
- Good grasp of Preventive Maintenance, 5S methodology, Kaizen, and Poka-Yoke techniques.
- Competency in maintenance documentation and working with Excel or ERP systems.
