About the Role
The City of Guelph is inviting applications for the position of Senior Transit Operations Advisor within Guelph Transit, located at 170 Watson Road S, Guelph, Ontario. This permanent, full-time role involves working on-site in a 24/7 environment with a 35-hour weekly schedule including weekends and holidays on a rotational shift basis. The incumbent will report to the Manager of Transit Operations and contribute to delivering and continually enhancing transit services that are safe, efficient, and customer-focused. This position supports operational planning, performance monitoring, policy development, and service optimization efforts aligned with the City of Guelph's vision of an inclusive, connected, and prosperous community.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and provide guidance to Route Supervisors within a continuous 24/7 operational framework.
- Deliver training programs for Route Supervisors and participate in employee-related processes, offering backup support to both Route Supervisors and the Manager of Operations.
- Develop, recommend, and lead initiatives including operating policies, standard operating procedures, work programs, service modification plans, and budgetary recommendations.
- Engage in reviewing programs, contributing to internal committees, and staying current with industry legislation, technological developments, and transit trends.
- Identify and implement innovative operational strategies to provide high-quality, cost-effective services.
- Assist in managing daily operational requirements such as staffing, service delivery, training, hiring, and quality assurance.
- Monitor service quality, performance metrics, and incident reports; respond to customer complaints; and formulate action plans for continuous improvement.
- Prepare and present staff communications including reports and memos, and contribute to divisional collaboration and leadership meetings.
- Other duties as assigned that support the efficient running of transit operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of a post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate.
- Significant experience working in transit or transportation operations.
- Proven ability in supervising, motivating, and training staff within a unionized and sensitive work environment.
- Possession of a valid Class BZ driver’s licence or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment; candidates must provide a current driver’s abstract and CVOR confirming good standing prior to start.
- Strong customer service skills with a capacity to manage multiple tasks and resolve inquiries and complaints effectively.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills enabling liaising effectively across all staff levels, stakeholders, and the public.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and team collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of applicable laws such as the Highway Traffic Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Experience with CAD/AVL transit management systems, like Trapeze, is an asset.
- Ability to strategically think while concurrently managing day-to-day operational priorities.
- Equivalencies combining education and experience may be considered.
