Role Summary

We invite applications for the role of Senior Principal Scientist in Process Development at our Cork facility. The successful candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team utilizing cutting-edge technologies. This position involves leading route scouting, synthetic design, process development, and characterization for various development programs while mentoring junior staff and influencing project directions.

Responsibilities

• Drive innovative chemistry and process development ideas supporting global projects.
• Develop safe, efficient, and robust processes by applying modern synthetic chemistry, new technologies, and statistical experimental design.
• Support commercial API processes using mechanistic expertise.
• Lead problem-solving initiatives through process understanding.
• Coordinate matrix teams across various scientific disciplines to achieve breakthroughs.
• Shape scientific strategy for advanced API process delivery collaborating with leaders and cross-functional management.
• Advance research capabilities incorporating automation, robotics, and AI.
• Explore novel technologies to enhance Pfizer's global supply operations.
• Contribute to scientific literature and present findings internally and externally.
• Provide leadership and strategic direction for small molecule API synthesis and process development.
• Mentor colleagues and foster effective relationships with internal partners and stakeholders.
• Lead key projects supporting Senior Management Team initiatives.
• Prepare high-quality reports, memos, and experimental logs timely.
• Ensure continuous improvement and safe operation of PDC facilities.

Candidate Profile

• PhD in synthetic organic chemistry with over 15 years in small molecule API process R&D within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Expertise in modern synthetic methodologies including asymmetric synthesis, green chemistry, catalysis, and physical organic chemistry.
• Experience employing analytical, computational, and automated technologies to enhance process efficiency.
• Proven record in designing and improving API manufacturing processes meeting regulatory approvals.
• Strong leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams and cross-functional collaborations.
• Ability to innovate practical technical solutions for complex challenges in laboratory and manufacturing settings.
• Excellent laboratory skills across diverse chemistries and recognized industry expertise.
• Knowledge of intellectual property, patents, and regulatory quality standards, including impurity control.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills.
• Demonstrated mentorship and coaching abilities.
• Extensive experience working in matrix team environments and influencing outcomes.
