Role Overview
The Senior Payroll Analyst role, based in Bangalore, India, involves leading comprehensive payroll operations within India while overseeing payroll governance, review, compliance, and payroll banking for multiple international payrolls. This position emphasizes transitioning from transactional payroll processing to becoming a regional payroll expert focused on accuracy, operational controls, legal compliance, continuity, and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the entire payroll lifecycle in India, including data input, validation, execution, compliance with statutory laws, reconciliations, and coordination with vendors.
- Review payroll for up to eight international countries to ensure accuracy, legislative adherence, and policy compliance before approval.
- Prepare, validate, coordinate approvals, and securely manage payroll bank payment files across all supported countries ensuring payment correctness and compliance with financial controls.
- Analyze payroll variance, reconciliation, and tax reports to detect and resolve issues prior to payroll approval.
- Handle full and final settlements processes within India.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of mandatory statutory dues such as PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, Income Tax, and more.
- Collaborate with payroll vendors, and departments like HR, Finance, and HRIS to solve complex payroll concerns and enhance service quality.
- Serve as the main escalation contact for queries related to payroll, statutory regulations, taxation, and compliance.
- Develop and continuously update payroll standard operating procedures, checklists, documentation, and governance controls to secure business continuity.
- Identify and promote automation of manual payroll tasks and strengthen operational controls and standards across global payroll processes.
- Support payroll audits both internally and externally by maintaining comprehensive documentation and compliance.
- Train and mentor payroll team members to ensure backup availability and reduce dependency on key personnel.
- Perform other job-related duties as needed to support organizational goals.
Qualifications
- 6 to 8 years of advanced payroll experience, especially in Indian payroll operations.
- Proven expertise in reviewing or assisting with global payroll operations covering multiple countries.
- Experience managing payroll banking functions, payment file handling, and associated financial controls.
- Strong familiarity with statutory payroll laws, governance, and compliance standards.
- Experience working with multinational companies and external payroll vendors.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
Skills & Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of Indian payroll processing and statutory compliance requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of global payroll review procedures and governance frameworks.
- Expertise in payroll reconciliation, controls, and audit preparedness.
- Practical experience with payroll banking activities and validating payment files ensuring financial accuracy.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Workday HRIS and international payroll vendors is advantageous.
- Strong analytical capabilities, stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to detect automation opportunities and drive ongoing enhancements in payroll processes.
