Security and Safety Officer

Overview

The Security and Safety Officer at World Vision Ghana is responsible for ensuring the implementation and oversight of security policies, access control management, supervision of security teams, and adherence to Core Security Requirements. This role supports the Country Security and Safety Manager by facilitating the effective planning and execution of security measures for national programs, promoting organizational security culture, and mitigating operational risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Country Security and Safety Manager to develop and apply the national security strategy consistent with World Vision’s security policies and operational goals.
• Ensure Core Security Requirements (CSR) are maintained and updated to reflect current risks and guidelines.
• Integrate safety and security considerations into all programming and project activities following established Standard Operating Procedures.
• Oversee staff safety and security at Area Programs (APs) and Clusters, responding promptly to security incidents and conducting risk assessments prior to major activities and after critical events.
• Manage physical security measures including facility assessments and visitor screening processes.
• Conduct regular security awareness sessions for staff and visitors to keep them informed about prevailing security situations.
• Represent World Vision Ghana at local NGO security networks and foster information sharing and coordination with external security stakeholders.
• Coordinate capacity building through security management training programs and develop a security-conscious work culture among staff.
• Prepare regular security reports and ensure thorough incident documentation and communication with field security personnel.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Security Management, Risk Management, Strategic Studies, International Relations, Emergency Management, Social Sciences, Core Sciences, or related fields.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in security roles within private, government, or NGO sectors.
• Professional background in security, safety, and resilience; experience in law enforcement or military is advantageous.
• Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) certifications preferred.
• Proficient with security risk assessment, threat analysis, safety planning, and crisis management in humanitarian contexts.
• Computer literate with skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Fluency in English and ability to communicate effectively in at least two Ghanaian languages; French language skills are an asset.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently domestically and internationally.
• Physically fit to perform security duties in various environmental conditions including during emergencies.
• First Aid certification is required.
• Ability to work flexible and non-standard hours as per security needs.

Additional Information

The role demands high alertness, responsiveness, and the capability to operate under pressure, occasionally outside typical office hours. The officer must balance operational priorities with humanitarian access and program security, liaising with government agencies and NGOs. The position requires effective communication and facilitation skills to build security awareness and compliance among staff.
