Scrum Master - Remote Position

Overview

GovCIO is seeking a Scrum Master to offer Agile leadership and support for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Data Modernization project. The role involves guiding, coordinating, and managing critical modernization tasks within a completely remote work setting across the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and oversee Agile methodologies within technical teams.
• Lead agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, sprint retrospectives, and backlog refinements.
• Collaborate with the Senior Project Manager to prepare for Sprint Reviews.
• Provide mentorship and coaching on Agile frameworks and processes to team members.
• Guide the team in applying Agile techniques including Scrum and Kanban.
• Coordinate with development teams, including enterprise-wide transformation projects.
• Create and deliver coaching materials and facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Promote continuous learning and improvement through retrospectives.
• Coach teams on Agile and DevOps practices to align with project goals.
• Ensure well-organized Jira management and team self-organization.
• Monitor team progress and facilitate ongoing skill enhancement.
• Maintain and update the Program Scrum Guide for the project section.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the VA Data Modernization effort, aligning with program objectives and timelines.
• Regularly update stakeholders on project status, deliverables, upcoming actions, and timelines.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least 12 years of experience in business analysis, project management, or closely related fields.
• Relevant certifications such as CSM, CSPO, or CAPM.
• Proven experience leading Scrum teams and facilitating scrum ceremonies.
• Proficiency with Jira and Confluence tools.
• Strong collaboration skills working within team environments.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• A positive demeanor and readiness to take initiative when necessary.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Background in IT operations or environments.
• Experience facilitating PI (Program Increment) Planning.
• Management experience with supervising and coaching staff toward success.
• Additional certifications such as ITIL Foundations, ITIL Service Level Management Practitioner, PMP, or other relevant credentials.
• Expertise in multi-team scrum ceremonies, Agile methodologies, and tools like AML, Scrum, and Kanban.
