Role overview
The Regional Business Unit Leader (RBUL) for APAC is accountable for delivering the business unit strategy across the region and for steering the regional profit and loss performance. In this role, you will translate global priorities into practical regional plans, working in close partnership with the Global Business Unit Leader / General Manager and coordinating with the APAC Regional President within the matrix structure.
You will also lead the regional sales and marketing functions, ensuring that commercial plans, compensation structures, category strategies, and customer engagement activities are executed effectively across APAC. The position serves as the key link between the global business and regional customers, helping ensure strategy is clearly communicated and adopted in the market.
Business strategy
- Partner with the global BU team to shape portfolio direction, P&L goals, and commercial rollout plans.
- Define the APAC market strategy and go-to-market approach in tight alignment with the GMs.
- Feed APAC customer and market insights into global sales and marketing planning.
Commercial leadership
- Build annual marketing, sales model programs, and service plans for APAC in line with the global BU strategy and in consultation with the APAC President.
- Run the P&L with strong discipline, using financial and operational information to guide decisions and improve results.
- Push initiatives forward with speed and accountability, ensuring they are implemented and produce measurable outcomes.
- Maintain a strong understanding of customer requirements, competitor activity, and the changing healthcare environment.
- Ensure adherence to APAC MedTech standards.
Leadership and organizational development
- Design and implement sales compensation plans and organizational structures together with the GM and APAC Regional President.
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing commercial teams while promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and growth.
- Work directly with the sales teams for each business unit and consolidate regional sales targets and overall APAC sales strategy.
- Ensure compliance with Olympus SOPs and all relevant external regulations.
Requirements
- Degree in Business, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a closely related field; an MBA is considered beneficial.
- At least 10 years of experience in MedTech or another life sciences environment, including 7-8+ years of proven success in an operational sales leadership role, ideally at subregion or cluster level, together with P&L ownership.
- Prior exposure to consumables businesses in APAC is preferred.
- Strong track record of leading in cross-functional, multi-country matrix organizations.
- Solid operational sales leadership background, preferably in a subregion or cluster setting.
- Strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to turn complex data into clear, high-impact market decisions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders in a matrix environment and guide cross-functional teams.
- Strong financial understanding, especially in P&L management and budgeting.
- Highly adaptable, action-oriented, and comfortable operating in competitive markets.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and solve problems effectively.
- In-depth familiarity with MedTech markets and regulatory requirements across APAC.
- Experience creating and executing campaigns with digital and PR agencies.
