Role overview
Downer is seeking expressions of interest for a Range Operator based at Townsville Field Training Area in Townsville, Queensland. This opportunity sits within a major program milestone for Downer following the award of the Property and Asset Services (PAS) contract, supporting base and estate services across NSW/ACT and Queensland. The role is part of Downer’s long-standing relationship with the Australian Defence Force and contributes directly to Defence capability.

Key duties
- Assist the Range Supervisor with the day-to-day upkeep and operation of range facilities, including basic maintenance and site security, while following range standing orders and safety requirements.
- Carry out routine inspections, maintenance activities, and general care of training areas and ranges.
- Support inspections and help maintain safety and compliance against the relevant standards.
- Contribute to specialist training area and range performance activities.
- Provide reporting input to assist the Range Supervisor.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant will bring hands-on experience or knowledge in facilities maintenance, minor repairs, and caretaker-style duties. A strong work ethic, positive approach, and commitment to quality outcomes are highly valued.
Desirable qualifications and experience include completion of a Range Induction Course and possession of a Medium Rigid Truck Licence.
A current open driver’s licence is required. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance, and Australian citizenship is mandatory. The role also requires completion of the relevant Public Safety Training Package units.
