Job description
Overview
A leading Tier One main contractor with operations across Ireland is seeking a Quantity Surveyor skilled in civil engineering to join their on-site team for a project in Foynes, County Limerick. This permanent role comes with an attractive salary package ranging from €65,000 to €85,000 annually depending on experience, along with benefits including transport allowance, pension scheme, and 26 days of annual leave.
Key Duties
- Implement and oversee commercial strategies.
- Assist and support Senior and Managing Quantity Surveyors in preparing tender documents and selecting subcontractors.
- Negotiate and finalize subcontractor contracts and manage their financial and commercial aspects through to final account closure.
- Maintain comprehensive site records and documentation control.
- Record site measurements accurately.
- Contribute to forecasting, target setting, and contract value reconciliations.
- Prepare valuations and variations with detailed documentation and ensure agreement during work progress.
- Update projected final account figures and liaise continuously with site management.
- Engage with and commercially challenge the site management team to protect contractual entitlements.
- Participate actively in Contract Value Reconciliations, maintaining an independent assessment.
- Identify and evaluate risks and opportunities related to contracts.
- Develop a good understanding of insurances and warranties pertinent to projects.
- Contribute to cash management efforts ensuring healthy financial flow.
- Provide support during tender processes as needed.
- Supervise and review work from Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors.
- Manage site records and documentation especially concerning Design and Build contracts.
- Participate in resolving claims and disputes and possess an understanding of contract law.
- Engage with contracts valued over €/£15 million without taking full responsibility.
- Take charge of controlling traditional contracts including supervising assistant QS staff and resolving measurement issues.
Qualifications and Skills
- A degree-level education and progress toward relevant professional accreditation such as CIOB membership.
- Proficiency in using the Standard Method of Measurement (SMM).
- Experience with Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) forms and contract procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including letter and report writing.
- Effective negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
- Capability to utilize diverse technology platforms efficiently.
- Knowledge of Contract Value Reconciliations and safety appreciation courses related to contract and commercial aspects.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
