Role Overview

We are looking for a highly detail-oriented and system-focused Product Designer to enhance our product lineup and lead the development and maintenance of the Tavus design systems. This includes all components, tokens, and visual patterns that form the foundation across our product ecosystem.

This position requires exceptional visual and motion design skills, with a keen eye for typography, color, spacing, and intricate detail. The candidate must effectively solve real product and user experience challenges, demonstrating strong product design judgement.

The role will initially focus on consolidating and scaling the design system to create a consistent, robust foundation. Over time, the role will evolve to take ownership of specific product areas, delivering high-quality experiences daily. This collaborative position involves close interaction with product, engineering, and leadership within a dynamic, creative team aimed at bridging the human-machine divide thoughtfully.

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area but allows remote work.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable token architecture, component structures, and theming models (including light/dark modes) that support multiple products and platforms without inconsistencies.
• Lead governance by setting standards, documentation, and contribution workflows to ensure consistency across all design system users, resolving conflicts decisively.
• Work in close partnership with frontend engineering to guarantee precise and effective implementation of design components.
• Enhance every component and pattern with refined visual and interaction design, including micro-interactions and motion, ensuring the system feels cohesive and intentional.
• Promote widespread adoption of the design system through clear documentation, resources, and collaboration with designers, engineers, and marketers.

Candidate Profile

• Extremely skilled visual designer with an expert understanding of typography, color, layout, and motion design techniques.
• Experienced product designer with over 6 years in the field and strong UX decision-making capabilities.
• Proven experience building and leading design systems at scale, including architecture and evolution, either within existing frameworks or from scratch.
• Creative and original thinker capable of producing unique designs rather than conventional standards; portfolio should reflect distinctiveness.
• Strong principles and the ability to defend design decisions thoughtfully and convincingly.
• Decisive and independent with the ability to make sound choices amid ambiguity while maintaining attention to detail.
• Technically literate enough to collaborate effectively with engineering teams, ensuring design fidelity in implementation.
• Adept at thriving in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities and minimal guidance.
