Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit laboratory, department, and staff reports and statistics as required.
  • Provide continuous education and support to Point of Care Testing (POCT) clinicians, serving as a mentor, coach, and trainer.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives within the laboratory and hospital to enhance patient care quality.
  • Ensure readiness for accreditation and inspections through meticulous documentation and adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Manage inventory and supplies to maintain the availability of essential materials.
  • Conduct orientation and training sessions for new staff members and medical technology students.
  • Follow safety protocols including personal protective equipment usage, hand hygiene, and handling hazardous chemicals.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures for the POCT program to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Train and evaluate testing personnel to guarantee precise and reliable results.
  • Assess and select new POCT instruments and testing methods to improve laboratory capabilities.
  • Oversee maintenance, validation, troubleshooting, and correlation of POCT equipment.
  • Collect and analyze relevant data to enhance the efficiency and quality of the POCT program.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts if necessary.
  • Knowledgeable about point-of-care testing and laboratory regulations.
  • Effective communication skills with various departments beyond the laboratory.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding conversational English.
  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications.

Educational Requirements

A bachelor's degree is required in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology or science coursework (including chemistry and biology) plus relevant clinical laboratory training or military medical laboratory training is acceptable. Specific criteria also include documented practical training or prior experience in high complexity testing as per CLIA standards.

Experience

Preferably, candidates should have at least two years of technical experience, including a minimum of one year in a POCT setting.

  • Licensure or certification requirements may vary depending on the work unit or state; refer to credential guidelines accordingly.
  • Regulatory body terminologies for certifications have evolved, with MT(ASCP) and MT(AMT) now referred to as MLS (ASCP) and MLS (AMT) respectively.

Schedule and Location

This is a full-time position with day shifts based in Calhoun, Georgia at 1035 Red Bud Rd NE, 30701.

Pay Range

The salary ranges from $24.92 to $46.36 per hour.
