Position Overview
Mackay Regional Council is seeking a Planner for Buildings & Facilities to join their Infrastructure Planning team. This permanent position at Level 6–7 offers a salary range of $115,000 to $135,000 plus superannuation. The role is pivotal in shaping long-term strategies for maintaining, renewing, and optimizing an extensive and diverse portfolio of council-owned buildings and facilities to ensure they remain safe, compliant, and suitable for community use.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement maintenance, renewal, and capital works programs for council buildings and facilities.
- Conduct condition assessments, inspections, and reviews to evaluate asset performance.
- Maintain and enhance asset registers and management systems for accuracy and effectiveness.
- Assist in capital works planning, budget preparation, and forecasting of renewal requirements.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, business cases, and provide investment recommendations.
- Provide technical input during procurement processes and oversee contract delivery.
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant building codes, legislation, standards, and asset management practices.
- Foster strong working relationships with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors.
- Encourage continuous improvements in asset management systems, policies, and planning frameworks.
For candidates appointed at Level 7, responsibilities include offering specialized guidance on complex projects, contributing to policy development, and supporting ongoing improvements within the Buildings & Facilities team.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and strategic planning experience, with a background in asset management, facilities, construction, or the built environment.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A degree or qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Built Environment, or related fields.
- Experience managing building and facilities assets, including maintenance scheduling and capital works delivery.
- Comprehensive understanding of asset management principles and lifecycle planning.
- Proven ability to develop capital works programs, maintenance plans, and manage budgets effectively.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation with precision.
- Familiarity with procurement procedures, contract administration, and relevant building legislation.
- Strong analytical capabilities, excellent report-writing skills, and aptitude for stakeholder engagement.
Local government or infrastructure environment experience is highly desirable.
