This is a full-time permanent role based onsite with fly-in fly-out (FIFO) roster options. Your primary responsibility will be partnering with Central Control to maximize pit safety and operational efficiency. Also known as “The Eyes of the Pit,” you will actively inspect and maintain roadways, manage autonomous haulage system (AHS) issues, support operators, and assist supervisors with leadership tasks as needed.
Key Duties
- Conduct thorough daily pre-task risk assessments and adhere strictly to Rio Tinto's safety standards, championing a culture of safety in all activities.
- Support production leadership by participating in PSI activities, leading field engagements, attending daily operational meetings, and closely collaborating with Central Control throughout your shift.
- Respond promptly to AHS faults and obstacle detection alerts, monitor mining fleet performance, identify hazards like adverse weather or road conditions, and ensure safe escorting of unequipped vehicles within AHS zones.
- Survey, maintain, and enhance pit roads, dumps, and loading locations to facilitate safe, efficient haulage; manage key taught courses and secure unused dumping or digging sites.
- Assist dig unit operators to optimize operational times by monitoring windrow heights, conducting post-blast inspections, managing site demarcation and signage, and coordinating personnel movements safely.
- Provide training to colleagues and actively contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated commitment to personal and team safety standards.
- Possession of a valid Australian C Class manual driver's licence or higher.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while adapting flexibly to evolving business needs.
- Current residence in Western Australia is required.
- Must hold permanent Australian residency status with unrestricted work rights (no sponsorship required).
