Role Overview

We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to manage the end-to-end processing of assigned payrolls across Canada and the United States. This role involves working with diverse payroll activities including union and non-union settings, handling complex payroll transactions, year-end processes, and payroll record maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute full payroll cycles weekly and bi-weekly for hourly and salaried employees, encompassing components like garnishments, incentive and deferred payments, stock options, hypo tax, shadow payrolls, and pension payrolls.
  • Balance payrolls based on year-end schedules and assist with audits for other payrolls as assigned.
  • Establish garnishment setups initially.
  • Prepare and reconcile third-party remittances ensuring timely submissions.
  • Maintain precise and current payroll documentation and records.
  • Complete year-end payroll balancing, filing, distribution of T4s/W2s, and necessary tax form amendments.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders including Finance and Operations.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll general ledger accounts upon request.
  • Maintain detailed division notes, processing instructions, and run books for payroll procedures.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries professionally, fostering employee satisfaction.
  • Contribute to payroll system implementations by defining requirements, preparing test plans, and documenting results.

Candidate Profile

  • 3 to 5 years of experience managing large-scale payrolls (over 2,500 employees) across Canada and the US.
  • Experience with expatriate or commuter payrolls is advantageous.
  • Possession or willingness to attain PCP or FPC payroll certification.
  • Proficient with advanced Excel features for reporting and data validation.
  • Exceptional organizational skills enabling management of multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Keen attention to detail with a proven history of delivering accurate results.

Compensation

Starting annual salary of $60,000.
