Overview
Leicester boasts a diverse variety of parks, gardens, and natural spaces, including over 150,000 trees, 107 hectares of woodlands, canals, and riversides, as well as 150 play and gym areas alongside sports, highways, and housing green spaces spanning 1,250 hectares. These high-quality open spaces enhance residents' quality of life and contribute significantly to physical and mental wellbeing, attracting approximately 9 million visitors annually.
This permanent, full-time position involves working 37 hours a week, Monday to Sunday with two weekdays off and includes Bank Holidays. Based at the Evington Park depot, you will operate across multiple sites in area 2, dealing with varying conditions such as high footfall and seasonal challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning duties outdoors in all weather conditions, ensuring parks and standalone toilet blocks remain clean and hygienic.
- Conduct litter picking, empty bins, and safely remove hazardous waste such as needles and unpleasant substances.
- Adhere strictly to all relevant health and safety legislation, including COSHH regulations.
- Carry out routine security tasks such as locking/unlocking park areas to maintain safety.
- Transport and manage cleaning tools, equipment, and water buckets efficiently between sites.
- Act as a friendly first point of contact, providing excellent customer service and support to park visitors.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience in general cleaning within public spaces, or capability to perform similar cleaning roles.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills adequate for maintaining cleaning documentation and following safety protocols such as COSHH.
- Awareness of health and safety responsibilities and safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Willingness to work in challenging environments, including outdoors during winter and inside public restrooms.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while handling interactions with the public.
- Possession of a full UK driving license is mandatory, as an LCC vehicle will be assigned during working hours.
