Position Overview
The Metal Scrap Purchaser will be based at Ndola on a full-time, on-site basis. This role is tasked with sourcing and acquiring ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap from both local and regional suppliers. Responsibilities include scouting and assessing new suppliers, negotiating terms and pricing, and ensuring materials meet quality standards, specifications, and delivery timelines. The role necessitates market and commodity price monitoring, diligent record-keeping, and close coordination with logistics and operations to guarantee prompt scrap collection and shipment. Daily duties involve supplier site visits, conducting material inspections, managing supplier relations, and contributing to ongoing sourcing and cost optimization improvements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in procurement related to metal scrap, recycling, metal trading, or industrial purchasing sectors.
- Proficient negotiation capabilities coupled with strong supplier relationship management.
- Familiarity with diverse ferrous and non-ferrous scrap classifications, quality evaluation techniques, and industry pricing standards.
- Comfortable performing fieldwork including site visits and basic inspection of materials within industrial settings.
- Strong numerical aptitude, analytical thinking, and precise documentation skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills required for cross-departmental coordination with logistics, finance, and operations.
- Basic knowledge of safety, health, and environmental compliance regulations pertinent to industrial and recycling activities.
- Competence with common office software and digital reporting tools for supplier and purchase management.
- Previous exposure to the Zambian market or regional experience is advantageous.
- A relevant technical, trade, or business qualification is desirable; however, equivalent work experience will be considered.
