Job description
Job Overview
As a Medical Transcriptionist at Al Dhafra Hospital under SEHA, you will be tasked with translating dictated clinical notes into accurate, clear, and concise written documentation to support patient care records.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe all relevant medical material, including discharge summaries, operative and cardiology reports, EEG, pathology, evaluations, history and physical reports, consultation and progress notes, and other medicolegal documents accurately and promptly.
- Use comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, symptoms, lab values, and English language rules to transcribe and proofread dictations from diverse sources with varying accents and styles.
- Interpret medical slang and abbreviations by translating them into expanded forms to ensure correct patient and medical facility records.
- Clarify any unclear or incomplete dictations by cross-referencing electronic records or consulting physicians, nursing, or ancillary departments as needed.
- Submit finished reports to the responsible physicians for review, sign-off, corrections, and integration into patient records.
- Operate word processing, dictation, transcription, and related equipment while performing troubleshooting tasks as necessary.
- Ensure reports are accurate in content, including patient identification, spelling, punctuation, grammar, header and footer details.
- Identify inconsistencies or discrepancies in dictations and edit for clarity without altering intended meaning or originator style.
- Report unusual situations or potential risks and any errors or discrepancies to Senior Medical Transcription Officer.
- Verify patient information for accuracy using electronic medical record systems.
- Update deficiency tracking modules as report statuses change to reflect documentation progress.
- Manage data by identifying and removing duplicate records in paper or electronic dictation systems.
- Maintain up-to-date terminologies through continuous education, publications, and training reflecting changes in the medical field.
- Adhere to recognized transcription standards consistently.
- Prepare productivity reports daily, weekly, and monthly for statistical review and monitor quality; maintain accurate work logs and edit sheets.
- Provide customer service support, responding promptly to inquiries and offering technical expertise while collaborating with Senior Medical Transcription Officers for solutions.
- Engage in team efforts, cooperating with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow.
Qualifications
- Required: Between 2 to 4 years of medical transcription experience in an acute care hospital or similar clinical setting.
- Preferred: Experience working in a large healthcare institution.
