Job Overview
The Laboratory Instructor will provide vital support to the Computer Science and Engineering department by preparing instructional lab resources in collaboration with faculty, delivering laboratory sessions to students, and assisting in the continual enhancement of lab coursework.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory instruction for Computer Science and Computer Engineering courses.
- Collaborate with faculty members to design and develop lab experiments and materials.
- Manage lab activities and deliver prompt feedback to instructors.
- Oversee student conduct in the laboratory professionally and evaluate lab assignments.
- Support students engaged in senior design projects.
- Carry out routine inspections and maintenance checks on lab equipment and coordinate equipment procurement.
- Encourage and assist with extracurricular student initiatives.
- Fulfill additional tasks as delegated by the Head of Department.
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Competency in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting laboratory hardware, computer systems, peripherals, and associated software within an academic setting.
- Skill in preparing, setting up, and arranging laboratory exercises and materials to ensure they are ready for instructional use.
- Strong proficiency in English with the capacity to communicate technical information, operational procedures, and safety guidelines clearly and effectively.
- Experience developing and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, including manuals and user guides.
- Awareness of relevant certifications, industry standards, and current tools that can enhance laboratory teaching and technical support.
- Sound technical judgment to accurately diagnose technical issues, prioritize tasks, and implement efficient solutions.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment alongside various levels of support staff.
- Capability to support a broad spectrum of courses and technologies spanning hardware, software, networking, and emerging computing domains.
- Exhibits responsibility, responsiveness, discretion, and a strong commitment to service in instructional and technical duties.
- Dedication to continuous learning and incorporation of advancements in computing technologies, lab methodologies, and educational tools into support activities.
- Ensures proper use of lab resources and enforces adherence to university policies, safety regulations, and technical standards.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following technical areas:
- Hardware: Digital systems, microcontrollers (e.g., AVR, ARM), assembly language programming (e.g., 8086), cyber-physical systems, FPGA platforms, VHDL/Verilog HDL, programmable logic controllers, data acquisition systems.
- Software: Programming languages such as C++, Java, Python; software engineering principles; Internet of Things (IoT) development; software design; data structures and algorithms; operating systems; database management; programming language theory; mobile app development for iOS and Android.
- Networking: Computer network fundamentals, cloud computing technologies, cybersecurity principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical experience in managing laboratory environments is advantageous.
