About the Role

Peston Media, the digital media branch of Peston Entertainment Limited within Peston Group, invites applications for a skilled Journalist to serve as both Presenter and Writer. This full-time, on-site position based in Dar es Salaam involves producing engaging journalistic content tailored for digital consumers across platforms such as YouTube and social media.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and propose news stories, features, interviews, and ideas for digital content.
• Compose clear, precise, and engaging news stories, feature articles, and scripts.
• Confidently present programs, interviews, and reports on camera.
• Conduct thorough interviews with diverse individuals including business leaders and industry experts.
• Prepare interview questions, program scripts, story outlines, and research briefs.
• Report on location and participate in events, press conferences, and interviews as needed.
• Produce voice-overs and narrations for various digital productions.
• Collaborate with videographers, editors, photographers, graphic designers, and the production team.
• Contribute to the creation of original programs, documentaries, business features, and other content.
• Verify the accuracy of facts and sources prior to publication.
• Monitor current affairs and business developments relevant to Peston Media audiences.
• Adapt lengthy stories and programs into formats suitable for YouTube and social media channels.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness, professionalism, and ethical journalism.
• Support the development of a consistent content schedule and editorial calendar.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Broadcasting, Communications, or a related discipline.
• At least two years of professional experience in journalism, reporting, broadcasting, or related digital media roles.
• Proven skills in journalism, research, news writing, interviewing, and storytelling.
• Strong on-camera presence and confidence.
• Experience as presenter, reporter, digital journalist, or broadcast journalist is an advantage.
• Proficiency in scriptwriting and story development for video and digital platforms.
• Good understanding of YouTube, social media, and current digital media consumption trends.
• Ability to proactively identify compelling stories beyond assigned topics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a production team.
• Skill in managing multiple tasks under deadlines.
• Firm grasp of journalistic ethics, fact-checking, and responsible reporting.
• Fluency in both English and Kiswahili, verbally and in writing.
• Basic knowledge of video production and digital content creation is a plus.

Candidate Profile

The preferred candidate will be a curious, confident, and creative journalist comfortable interacting professionally across various sectors. Besides writing, they must excel in researching, interviewing, presenting, and partnering with production teams to generate compelling digital stories. Experience in television, online media, YouTube journalism, business journalism, documentary production, or presenting is highly desirable.
