JavaScript/TypeScript Developer - Remote

Job Summary

This remote contractor role is for an experienced software engineer who can help train and assess next-generation AI systems by working through realistic engineering tasks. The work is best suited to people who are comfortable with unfamiliar codebases, can articulate technical decisions well, and can solve practical problems in backend, full-stack, systems, or infrastructure settings.

Prior AI experience is not needed. The main focus is on strong engineering judgment, clear written communication, and the ability to judge code quality, architecture choices, tradeoffs, and implementation approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Tackle demanding engineering assignments across backend, full-stack, infrastructure, and systems-oriented work.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, improve, and explain code in varied technical environments.
• Create or assess workable solutions involving APIs, databases, services, integrations, testing, and deployment processes.
• Weigh engineering decisions around scale, maintainability, speed, reliability, security, and developer experience.
• Put technical reasoning into clear written explanations, including why a solution is effective and what other options were considered.
• Work with the customer’s team on technical reviews, implementation choices, and problem-solving exercises.
• Adjust rapidly to new codebases, frameworks, and changing technical requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• At least 5 years of practical software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience in one or more backend or full-stack environments such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#, .NET, C++, Go, Ruby, PHP, or similar technologies.
• Background in building, supporting, or reviewing production-grade applications, APIs, services, databases, or integrations.
• Solid grasp of core engineering principles, including debugging, testing, code quality, architecture, and tradeoff analysis.
• Ability to explain complex technical decisions in a clear and objective way.
• Comfort with reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code and technical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, containers, monitoring, or production operations.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, or React Native.
• Open-source contributions, public GitHub projects, technical writing, or strong examples of past engineering work.
• Experience mentoring developers, reviewing code, or making architecture decisions.

Additional Information

This is a contractor engagement expected to require 10–12 hours per week. The role is remote.
