IT Programme Director

Role overview

A major healthcare organisation is seeking an experienced IT Programme Director for a permanent role in Dublin. The position involves working from Dublin with travel to several sites across Ireland as business needs require.

What you will do

• Take ownership of a major enterprise technology transformation programme and deliver it successfully end to end.
• Set up and run programme governance, including controls, reporting lines and decision-making forums.
• Prepare and keep current the programme plan, budget, milestones, risks and interdependencies.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams made up of business, technology and external vendor partners.
• Ensure delivery stays on track against timelines, quality expectations and business goals.
• Track and resolve risks, issues and escalations across the programme.
• Lead organisational change activities, including user adoption and internal communication.
• Oversee solution design, system configuration, testing, deployment and support after go-live.
• Produce updates and reports for executives, steering groups and governance bodies.
• Handle several simultaneous workstreams while prioritising time, budget and resources effectively.
• Strengthen and evolve project delivery methods, standards and best practices.
• Support a smooth handover into operational support once implementation is complete.
• Develop productive relationships with internal teams, senior leaders and external delivery partners.

Required background

• A qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Healthcare Informatics or a similar field.
• A formal project management credential such as PMP, PRINCE2 or an equivalent certification.
• More than 10 years of experience delivering complex enterprise technology programmes.
• At least 3 years managing sizeable programme portfolios.
• Hands-on experience with MEDITECH, Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner) or comparable enterprise electronic health record platforms.
• Background in large-scale digital transformation delivery.
• Strong capability in programme governance, risk handling and executive-level reporting.
• Experience working with third-party vendors and implementation partners.
• Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across business and technology functions.
• Excellent stakeholder management with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
• Strong communication, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Comfort working across multiple priorities in a complex, fast-moving environment.

Preferred experience

• Exposure to EHR, HIS or CIS programme delivery.
• Prior work in healthcare or another highly regulated sector.
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure, system integrations and business continuity planning.
• Experience setting up or leading a Programme Management Office (PMO).
• An MBA, MHA or another relevant postgraduate qualification.
