Role Summary
This position combines industrial design and project management responsibilities in the retail display sector. The role entails managing the full lifecycle of bespoke retail fixtures, point-of-sale displays, and store environments from conceptual development to final installation.
Responsibilities include sketching concepts, creating detailed 3D CAD models and technical documentation, coordinating supplier engagement for quotations and samples, and overseeing production and delivery timelines. The role demands close collaboration with clients, account managers, and suppliers to ensure projects meet brand standards, deadlines, and budget requirements.
Key Duties
- Develop innovative design concepts for retail fixtures, POS displays, gondolas, and customized store environments based on client requirements
- Create fabrication-ready 3D models and 2D drawings utilizing SolidWorks or comparable CAD tools
- Specify appropriate materials, finishes, lighting, hardware, and signage aligning with retail and branding needs
- Prepare client presentations including renderings and detailed specification documents
- Revise designs considering client feedback, supplier feedback, and value engineering opportunities
- Lead management of multiple retail display projects from briefing to installation completion
- Maintain detailed project schedules tracking design progress, supplier lead times, production stages, and delivery
- Manage relations with manufacturers and suppliers including briefing, quote reviews, sample approvals, and quality assurance
- Monitor project budgets, comparing actual expenses with estimates and addressing cost issues proactively
- Coordinate with internal teams such as account management, production, and logistics to ensure smooth project transitions
- Serve as main contact for clients providing updates, managing approvals, and resolving issues throughout project cycles
- Interpret client briefs into effective retail display solutions adhering to brand and retailer compliance standards
- Support business development efforts by preparing design concepts, estimates, and project methodologies
Candidate Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field
- Between 3 and 6 years of experience in retail display design, POS design, shopfitting, or similar
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with strong preference for SolidWorks
- Demonstrated project management skills managing multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Comprehensive knowledge of retail materials and manufacturing processes such as timber, metal, acrylic, injection molding, digital printing, and LED lighting
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills with clients and suppliers
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Office for design documentation
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with Australia's major retailers including Myer, Coles, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse and their fixture approval processes
- Experience managing domestic or offshore manufacturing suppliers and understanding freight and logistics
- Knowledge of retail planograms and brand standards within department or trade stores
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Monday.com or Asana
- Background in flat-pack, modular, or export-packaged retail display design
