Role Overview

The Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder position entails accurately assigning clinical codes to patient care episodes by analyzing clinical documentation meticulously. The role utilizes ICD-10-AM and ACHI coding systems, adhering strictly to Australian and State Coding Standards. A critical part of this role is identifying and resolving coding issues and consulting with clinical and administrative personnel to ensure precise and compliant data management. The position also encompasses participating in quality assurance activities related to coded data and supporting health information reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive clinical coding across diverse case mixes using ICD-10-AM and ACHI classifications.
• Apply Australian and State Coding Standards judiciously for coding accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure correct code assignment, sequencing, and Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) determination.
• Conduct research to clarify clinical documentation and support coding decisions.
• Maintain minimal supervision while proactively engaging in continuous learning and role development.
• Collaborate with team members and work independently where necessary.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Foster a safe, equitable workplace by following safe work protocols and organizational policies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Degree in Health Information Management to qualify as a Health Information Manager.
• Certificate IV in Clinical Classification or Diploma of Clinical Coding qualification for Clinical Coder classification.
• Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Proven problem-solving skills, especially in interpreting ambiguous medical records.
• Meticulous attention to detail with sustained concentration during tasks.
• A collaborative approach while being capable of autonomous work.
