Role Overview

We invite applications for the role of Head of Risk, a strategic leadership position dedicated to overseeing our global enterprise risk management strategy. The successful candidate will champion risk management as a catalyst for innovation and positive organizational impact rather than a constraint. This role requires close collaboration with senior leaders, governance bodies, and management teams to embed risk-aware decision-making that aligns with Plan International’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain a culture that simultaneously identifies and manages risks and opportunities, ensuring their interplay is well understood.
• Support strategic leaders by evaluating risks and opportunities according to organizational priorities and risk appetite, enabling informed decisions concerning various trade-offs.
• Drive continual advancement and application of Plan International's enterprise risk management framework to promote risk as a strategic business enabler.
• Provide expert guidance and foster collaboration to improve organizational resilience, agility, and innovation across a multifaceted global context.
• Take ownership of the global insurance and risk transfer strategy, overseeing a comprehensive, value-driven insurance program that complies with legalities and governance standards.
• Lead and manage a specialist risk team while cultivating strong partnerships with insurance brokers and external stakeholders to maintain optimal protection and operational flexibility.

Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive senior-level experience in enterprise risk management and insurance within an international setting.
• Proven expertise in supporting multifaceted strategic decision-making processes.
• Strong ability to assess risk and transform insights into opportunities that enhance organizational value.
• Demonstrated skill in guiding leaders to embrace calculated risks beyond mere mitigation.
• Excellent negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
• Advanced analytical skills paired with clear communication of complex risk assessments.
• Capability to navigate complex environments with clarity and focus.
• Previous leadership experience with effective team management skills.
• Professional qualification in Risk Management is required.

Additional Information

The role is full-time, permanent, and reports directly to the General Counsel. The position is flexible: candidates must reside in a country where Plan International has an office and hold the right to work and live there. Eligible locations include a broad list of countries worldwide including Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, United Kingdom, United States, and more.
