Role overview
This permanent full-time position supports the Facilities and Utilities function at UPMC Whitfield Hospital in Waterford. The role reports to the Facilities Supervisor and Facilities Manager and focuses on the day-to-day upkeep of facilities systems, building fabric, and plant.
Key duties
- Keep the helpdesk record, planned preventive maintenance (PPM) tasks, reporting, and monitoring work consistently updated.
- Work as part of the wider Whitfield Hospital Facilities team, including the Projects Team, and also support satellite locations in Cleaboy, SETU Arena, Carlow, and Cork.
- Take part in site energy activities covering gas, electricity, and water, with a focus on ongoing efficiency gains and reduced usage.
- Assist the Facilities Manager in promoting energy awareness and sustainability through the ISO 50001 energy management approach.
- Support the Facilities Manager, Projects Team, and Bio-Medical Engineers in overseeing contractors and specialist visiting engineers so services remain high-quality, technically sound, and cost-effective.
- Help ensure all new assets are logged in the F2 Helpdesk/Asset database and that PPM schedules are created in line with Facilities Manager and/or Bio-Medical Engineer guidance.
- Work with the Facilities Supervisor/Manager and Bio-Medical Engineer to maintain appropriate materials and stock levels for both preventive and reactive work within budget limits.
- Support the operation and maintenance of installed building services across relevant technical disciplines, following job specifications, PPM schedules, and task sheets in the F2 Helpdesk/Asset database system.
- Carry out work in line with UPMC Whitfield quality, health and safety, and facilities policies and procedures, as well as applicable accreditation requirements such as HSA, JCI, and CHKS.
- Assist with scheduled contractor audits to confirm that service levels continue to deliver good value and quality.
- Help promote a strong health and safety culture across designated facilities and utilities plant rooms.
- Contribute to utility operations maintenance planning and energy management on site.
Skills and experience required
The post requires a qualified mechanical, electrical, or maintenance technician at Level 6 HETAC, with at least three years of post-qualification experience in a facilities maintenance role within a regulated pharmaceutical, healthcare, or food and beverage environment. Healthcare experience is preferred.
Candidates should bring experience in asset care maintenance services, maintenance standards, cost-saving initiatives, and minor works projects, along with a solid grasp of maintenance, reliability, safety, quality, and regulatory expectations. A self-starting, accountable attitude is essential.
Licence and certifications
A full clean driving licence is required. The following are desirable: Safe Pass, Manual Handling, MEWP, and First Aid/Basic Life Support certifications.
Compensation
The salary range is €44,945.00 to €58,563.94 per year, based on a 39-hour working week.
