Role overview
This opening is for the Field Operations unit at WorkForce WV’s local office in Weirton, where the role focuses on interviewing customers about unemployment benefits and job placement, then recording the information accurately. The position also supports job matching, employer outreach, referrals to partner services, and general office follow-up.
What you will do
- Interview customers to collect information tied to unemployment benefits and job placement.
- Enter and update customer details through data entry tasks.
- Match job seekers with available openings and connect them to suitable opportunities.
- Refer customers to partner agencies for support services such as transportation, training, and related assistance.
- Work with employers to promote job postings and encourage vacancies to be shared with the agency.
- Make appropriate referrals and verify reported hires.
- Process job orders and complete follow-up with employers.
- Answer phone calls from customers and employers.
- Learn about partner agencies so accurate referrals can be made.
- Follow agency policies, procedures, and any other assigned duties.
Minimum qualification requirements
Applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of full-time paid work experience, or the part-time equivalent.
Education may be used instead of part of the experience requirement. Accredited college or university study can replace experience at a rate of 30 semester hours for each year of experience. Vocational school training can replace experience at a rate of 1,080 clock hours for each year of experience.
Application and documentation notes
Education, licensure, or certification must be verified once by uploading an official transcript, license, or certificate with the online application or by emailing it to the West Virginia Division of Personnel at applicantservices@wv.gov. High school diplomas or transcripts do not need to be submitted and should not be sent. Duplicate verification documents should not be uploaded.
Experience must be clearly described in the Work History section of the online application or in the attached résumé, including day-to-day duties, so it can count toward the minimum qualifications.
Applicants must answer the qualification questions exactly as instructed. The form also asks for a summary of post-secondary education and/or total qualifying experience, using the stated equivalency chart for vocational hours, semester hours, and degrees. If you have no relevant training or education to report, you must enter “NONE”.
Additional screening questions
The application asks whether all jobs listed were full-time, and if not, to provide details of any part-time positions. It also asks whether all listed positions were paid, and if not, to explain any unpaid work. Compensation can include salary, wages, room and board, gas mileage, or similar benefits.
Other information
This role includes a one-year probationary period. State employment offers a variety of benefits.
Affirmation
By submitting the application, the candidate confirms that all information is true and complete, authorizes the State of West Virginia and its agents to verify job-related information, and releases them from liability for those inquiries. The candidate also authorizes former employers, educational institutions, and organizations, including law enforcement agencies, to share relevant information for the application process.
The agency states that it does not accept unofficial transcripts, high school diplomas or transcripts, birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver’s licenses, or passports. Any such documents submitted will be removed from the profile.
