Job description

Role Overview

AmuGreen & MyGug invite applications for the role of Education Outreach Officer to spearhead the expansion of the MyGug in Schools programme across Ireland. This is a valuable career opportunity for a graduate aiming to establish a professional path integrating education with sustainability, climate technology, and the emerging bioeconomy sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Forge and maintain effective connections with schools, educators, student groups, and wider educational communities.
  • Assist educational institutions in incorporating MyGug as an interactive tool for learning.
  • Conduct workshops and hands-on sessions for both teachers and pupils.
  • Create educational materials such as lesson plans, activity packs, and project outlines centered on MyGug.
  • Support MyGug's application across varied subjects including Agricultural Science, Biology, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Home Economics, Horticulture, and Environmental Studies.
  • Guide schools in launching comprehensive food waste reduction, circular economy, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Advise educators on project-based and interdisciplinary instructional methods using MyGug.
  • Promote the exchange of best practices among program participants.
  • Gather and analyze feedback to evaluate the programme's educational and environmental impact.
  • Represent the organization at relevant events focusing on education, climate change, and sustainability.
  • Contribute actively to the national scale-up and refinement of the MyGug in Schools programme.

Educational Requirements

A Level 8 degree or its equivalent in fields such as Primary or Secondary Education, Environmental Science, Sustainability Studies, Biology, Agricultural Science, STEM Engineering, Horticulture, or related disciplines.

Experience and Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in education, outreach, community engagement, or STEM/environmental programmes is highly valued.
  • Comfort and experience working with students, teaching teams, school systems, and community/stakeholder groups.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation capabilities to convey technical and scientific ideas clearly.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a collaborative approach.

Compensation and Working Conditions

The position is offered on a fixed-term contract basis at a starting salary ranging from €25,000 to €32,000 dependent on experience, with prospects for salary growth and potential transition to a permanent role as the programme expands. Hybrid work arrangement combines remote working with scheduled onsite visits to schools throughout Ireland. Candidates residing anywhere in Ireland are encouraged to apply.
