About the Role
Become a key contributor to the City of Seguin's efforts in promoting economic prosperity by joining the Economic Development team. This position focuses on advancing strategic priorities that enhance business attraction, retention, and growth through effective administration, stakeholder collaboration, and operational coordination. The role supports both the City of Seguin Economic Development Department and the Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) by managing confidential tasks and facilitating day-to-day operations under the Executive Director's guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with economic development colleagues to execute the strategies detailed in the City and SEDC's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
- Deliver outstanding customer service to businesses, community partners, city staff, SEDC Board members, and the public.
- Handle administrative functions including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, managing records, responding to information requests, tracking performance metrics, and maintaining property and contact databases.
- Support financial processes such as budget monitoring, purchase orders, invoice processing, financial reporting, incentive compliance, and grant administration.
- Assist marketing initiatives including organizing promotional events, conferences, site tours, social media content, newsletters, and brand management efforts.
- Coordinate projects by monitoring timelines, milestones, collaborating with various departments and agencies, and reporting progress.
- Develop and maintain relationships with business leaders, real estate professionals, and developers to foster business retention and lead generation.
- Represent the City and SEDC at lead generation and marketing events, which may require occasional overnight travel.
Additional Duties
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with economic development principles, municipal administration, and basic business/financial operations.
- Exemplary customer service skills and ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining high integrity and transparency.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with discretion in handling confidential information.
- Ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with various city officials and external partners.
Experience and Education
- Associate's degree or equivalent in economics, business administration, public administration, economic development, or related areas; or minimum two years full-time experience in business administration or direct customer service.
- Bachelor's degree or experience in municipal government, economic development, or community development is preferred.
- Completion of an International Economic Development Council (IEDC) accredited Basic Economic Development Course is required.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Texas driver's license or alternative reliable transportation.
Compensation and Hiring Details
- Starting salary is $27.11 per hour.
- Position remains open until filled.
