With over a century of experience, Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) supports learners throughout New Zealand by providing flexible, future-oriented education accessible any time and place. Our students select subjects based on their interests, engaging online with guidance from dedicated kaiako who inspire and facilitate learning. Additionally, our educators provide pastoral care and connect learners through regular hui, either virtually or face-to-face, fostering a strong sense of community.

Team Overview

The Early Childhood team at Te Kura delivers a complimentary, tailored learning programme for children aged two to six. Our learners come from diverse circumstances, including remote locations, itinerant lifestyles, significant health needs, or special developmental requirements.

About the Role

This permanent role (starting October 2026) is full-time (40 hours weekly) and based in Wellington. As an Early Childhood Kaiako, you will collaborate closely with parents, supervisors, and whanau to develop individualized learning programmes aligned with New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki.

We seek a team player who embraces collaboration, problem-solving, idea-sharing, and respectful relationships. Comfort with digital communication tools is essential, as teaching and engagement primarily occur online.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Current New Zealand teacher registration with a valid practicing certificate
• In-depth understanding of the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum (Te Whāriki)
• A calm, inclusive, and nurturing teaching style with strong pastoral care abilities
• Competence with digital tools for learner engagement
• Passion for collaborative, values-driven education
• Willingness to grow proficiency in Te Reo Māori
