Role overview
This is a permanent full-time position based in Rangiora with Waimakariri District Council. You will join a newly formed Duty Planning Team within the Resource Consents Team and play an important part in delivering reliable planning advice and strong customer service for the community.
The role suits someone who wants to grow a career in planning and resource management while contributing to sustainable development across the Waimakariri District. As the first contact for planning questions, you will help guide people on land use, subdivision, and District Plan matters, while supporting the Council’s responsibilities under the Resource Management Act 1991.
Key duties
- Handle planning enquiries by email, telephone, and face to face.
- Offer practical guidance on minor development proposals and pre-application discussions.
- Assess property enquiries and Project Information Memorandums (PIMs).
- Keep planning records accurate, organised, and easy to access.
What the Council is seeking
- A recognised qualification in planning, resource management, surveying, or a closely related discipline.
- Working knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991 and general planning procedures.
- A proactive approach to solving problems and working well in a team-based environment.
- Strong self-management skills and the ability to complete tasks independently.
- Careful attention to detail and professional, clear communication.
- Planning experience is preferred, ideally 1 to 2 years, but candidates with the right mindset and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
