Job Overview
Farrans Construction is looking for an enthusiastic Design Engineer to join their team in Monaghan, focusing on major water and wastewater infrastructure projects for Uisce Éireann. This role is crucial for developing, coordinating, and reviewing civil and utility designs that are technically sound, constructible, and meet project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design process from contract award through to construction, ensuring timely delivery of design information.
- Coordinate activities among internal and external design teams to provide guidance, monitor progress, and manage design approvals.
- Review designs for compliance with standards, specifications, temporary works, and practical construction considerations.
- Provide technical support to the engineering team through addressing technical queries, resolving design issues, and identifying value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare designs so they are ready for construction ahead of schedule.
- Assist in risk management by identifying hazards, potential defects, and areas of non-compliance.
- Contribute to dimensional control and producing accurate setting-out information for site teams.
- Implement formal design workflows including document control, approval procedures, and change management.
- Support Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes in collaboration with the BIM Manager.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure the design intent, safety requirements, and project obligations are fulfilled.
Candidate Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Relevant experience in civil or utility design engineering, especially in water, wastewater, pipelines, or drainage sectors.
- Knowledge of contemporary civil construction methods and design-to-build coordination.
- Familiarity with Uisce Éireann standards or comparable regulated utility frameworks is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office; experience with Asta or BIM software is advantageous.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively liaise across design and site teams.
- Hold a full, clean manual driving license.
- Have or be willing to obtain a Safe Pass certification.
