Position Overview

The Special Projects Department seeks a dedicated Custodian for the Auckland Temple, offering a permanent, full-time role under the direct supervision of the Custodial Supervisor. This position is essential for preserving the temple's sacred environment and its surrounding buildings, enabling worshippers and members to engage in spiritual practices and ordinances in a setting reflecting divine standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and care for all assigned temple interior and ancillary areas to meet high standards appropriate for the sacred space.
• Actively contribute as a positive and cooperative team member within the custodial unit.
• Communicate openly and effectively with supervisors and co-workers, promptly reporting any concerns, hazards, damages, or questions.
• Exhibit punctuality, diligence, reliability, and a strong willingness to perform assigned tasks.
• Handle cleaning and relocation of furniture, rugs, draperies, chandeliers, and assist with setting up rooms for meetings when required.
• Use cleaning chemicals and agents responsibly, following all safety guidelines and wearing necessary protective equipment.
• Operate motorized cleaning machinery such as vacuums, buffers, and other motorized and hand tools skillfully to ensure exceptional cleaning outcomes.
• Complete safety and equipment training to perform duties with maximum safety and efficiency.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Previous custodial work experience demonstrating proficiency in cleaning techniques, supply management, and equipment operation and upkeep.
• Experience cleaning diverse materials including marble, stained glass, brass, carpets, tile, grout, and ability to work at elevated heights.
• Competence using cleaning machines like buffers, carpet cleaners, and vacuums.
• Physical ability to lift up to 55 lbs, push loaded carts, perform bending, crawling, reaching, and ladder climbing, with capacity to work 8-hour shifts.
• Ability to comprehend and execute verbal and written instructions in English, with capability to seek clarification when necessary.
• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.
• Potential requirement to pass a police background check.
