Role Overview
This position entails delivering comprehensive medical care for adult and pediatric patients within telemedicine settings, emphasizing diabetes management framed by family medicine principles. The consultant will lead the diagnosis, treatment, and long-range supervision of diabetes and associated metabolic issues alongside other acute and chronic health conditions, leveraging evidence-based, patient-focused approaches integrated through multidisciplinary teamwork. Key objectives include prevention, early intervention, chronic disease optimization, continuity of care, and application of population health and value-based care methodologies to improve outcomes and optimize resource use.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct telehealth consultations involving virtual assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and continuous follow-up of diabetes, metabolic diseases, and other medical conditions.
- Perform in-depth clinical evaluations, including review of medical history, virtual physical examination, medication reconciliation, diabetes risk evaluation, and analysis of labs and diagnostic tests.
- Create and execute tailored, evidence-driven management plans covering glycemic control, medication adjustments, lifestyle coaching, preventive measures, and appropriate specialist referrals.
- Manage patients diagnosed with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, and other metabolic disorders while handling diabetes complications and comorbidities.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including endocrinologists, dietitians, diabetes educators, pharmacists, and primary care physicians for coordinated, patient-centered care delivery.
- Utilize digital health technologies such as remote monitoring tools and telemedicine platforms to provide secure, high-quality virtual care ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Champion chronic disease management, population health strategies, preventive care, and value-based initiatives to enhance glycemic outcomes, reduce complications, and optimize healthcare utilization.
- Communicate clearly with patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care plans.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant medical, ethical, regulatory, and telehealth quality standards and guidelines.
- Stay informed of telehealth regulatory changes and best practices; engage in quality improvement projects, clinical audits, and research activities to elevate care standards.
- Maintain proficiency in telehealth platform operations including video conferencing, secure messaging, and Electronic Health Records (EHR) integration; troubleshoot technical challenges in partnership with IT support.
- Adhere strictly to patient safety standards across all clinical interactions, report safety concerns promptly, and implement safety protocols to minimize risks during consultations.
- Educate patients about medication side effects and correct usage, delivering empathetic, comprehensive consultations that address patient concerns and foster satisfaction.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams, share insights to improve patient-centered care, mentor junior clinicians, and conduct training on clinical protocols.
- Engage actively in continuous professional development through workshops, conferences, and related educational forums to remain current on advancements in diabetology and telehealth.
Qualifications & Skills
- Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Completion of Family Medicine residency program from an accredited source.
- Board certification in Family Medicine.
- Fellowship certification in Diabetology.
- Registration and classification as a Family Medicine-Diabetology Consultant with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
- Proven track record in a similar consultant role, ideally within hospitals or clinical environments.
- Experience with population health management and value-based care models.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and telemedicine platforms.
- Strong clinical acumen, analytical capabilities, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform effectively in dynamic, multitasking healthcare settings.
- Dedication to ongoing learning and embracing innovations in family medicine, diabetology, and telehealth modalities.
