Configuration Manager

Overview

The Configuration Manager role is pivotal in developing, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing Configuration Management processes across the entire product lifecycle. This role is tasked with safeguarding the integrity, traceability, control, and auditability of product-related data such as requirements, CAD models, drawings, specifications, software, Bills of Materials, and technical documentation within a stringent Aerospace and Defence regulatory framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and uphold policies, procedures, work instructions, and governance structures for Configuration Management.
• Establish and maintain baseline configurations for products through phases including development, production, delivery, and ongoing support.
• Chair Configuration Control and Change Review Boards to oversee documented, authorized, and traceable change decisions.
• Manage product aspects including structure, part numbering, revisions, lifecycle states, effectivity ranges, and release procedures.
• Ensure coherence between requirements, CAD files, drawings, specifications, E-BOMs, M-BOMs, software, and associated documentation.
• Handle Engineering Change Requests and Notices through their full lifecycle from initiation to closure.
• Coordinate configuration changes across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management teams.
• Oversee workflows, product structures, CAD documentation, lifecycle stages, and release mechanisms within PLM systems such as Windchill or Teamcenter.
• Guarantee precise data transfer and synchronization between PLM and SAP, particularly part masters, BOMs, revisions, and effectivities.
• Supervise E-BOM governance and conversion processes to M-BOM formats to support production readiness and initial articles.
• Maintain Configuration Status Accounting to ensure accurate reporting on configuration data.
• Plan and execute Functional and Physical Configuration Audits, ensuring timely resolution of corrective actions.
• Support and facilitate internal, customer, regulatory, and external quality audits.
• Ensure adherence to standards including BS 8888, ISO 9001, ISO 10007, AS9100, customer mandates, and other Aerospace and Defence regulations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Configuration Officers and Specialists.
• Advocate for best practices and foster continuous improvement across PLM, ERP, document control, and change management processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Configuration Management, or related discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in Configuration Management within Aerospace, Defence, or highly regulated sectors.
• Minimum 5 years holding leadership or management responsibilities.
• Extensive hands-on knowledge of Windchill or Teamcenter, SAP ERP, ECR/ECN workflows, Configuration Status Accounting, E-BOM/M-BOM handling, PLM systems, document control, and engineering drawing management.
