About Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF)
Founded in 2008, AIEF arose from Indigenous community requests to provide scholarships enabling Indigenous students to attend boarding schools. Partnering government and private sectors, AIEF supports over 1,500 Indigenous students from more than 400 communities across Australia with scholarships for completing Year 12 or tertiary studies, along with career mentoring to ease employment transitions. It boasts retention, completion, and transition rates above 90% since inception.
Role Overview
The Communications Officer works under the Communications and Events Manager to deliver communication initiatives that enhance AIEF's brand, reputation, and stakeholder relationships. The role involves content creation, managing digital channels, and supporting communications across campaigns, publications, and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and distribute various internal and external communication materials such as emails, letters, newsletters, blogs, and updates.
- Support communications campaigns across print, digital, and email platforms.
- Manage the AIEF photo and video archives.
- Handle day-to-day operations of AIEF's social media accounts.
- Maintain content scheduling and calendars for multiple channels.
- Curate and publish social media posts timely and manage updates on AIEF's intranet and website.
- Produce engaging graphics, videos, and presentations.
- Assist in producing the Annual Report and other organizational publications.
- Develop communication materials including digital assets and reports.
- Monitor news, media mentions, and online conversations to identify issues, risks, or opportunities and draft engagement responses.
- Prepare media monitoring and coverage summaries for leadership.
- Maintain media contact databases and support media relations activities.
- Contribute to event communications including invitations, collateral, presentations, speaking notes, and messaging.
- Assist in preparing event speeches, presentations, and stakeholder materials.
- Collaborate across teams ensuring a unified and consistent stakeholder experience.
- Participate in organizational initiatives requiring collective effort.
- Help maintain the organization's style guide and advise on branding standards.
- Support ongoing improvements in processes and practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications

- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in Indigenous education sector is highly advantageous.
