Job Purpose
In the role of Commissioning Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and executing all electrical commissioning activities for assigned projects. This includes applying established ACWA Power Commissioning Standards and best practices on site to ensure that electrical systems are thoroughly tested, commissioned, and handed over in accordance with project specifications and operational requirements. You will collaborate closely with EPC contractors, project management teams, and operating entities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient commissioning leading to full operational readiness of electrical infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide expert technical feedback during tender and bid reviews in support of the Senior Electrical Commissioning Manager.
- Review Electrical commissioning content within EPC contract appendices.
- Contribute to planning and scheduling of electrical commissioning tasks.
- Assist in evaluating EPC contractor’s electrical commissioning procedures and test plans.
- Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, protection devices, cables, UPS systems, battery chargers, and auxiliaries.
- Execute functional tests, loop checks, and troubleshooting under senior supervision.
- Conduct inspections and pre-commissioning verifications ensuring compliance with design specifications and standards.
- Document test outcomes and produce commissioning reports for approval.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with design, construction, instrumentation & control, mechanical, and DCS teams to resolve technical issues.
- Engage with vendors and manufacturers during testing and troubleshooting activities.
- Support the review of project documentation including test reports, as-built drawings, and commissioning records.
- Ensure adherence to project specs, industry codes, and stringent safety regulations throughout commissioning phases.
- Implement and observe safety procedures during electrical energization, testing, and operational commissioning.
- Participate actively in safety audits and risk assessments related to electrical commissioning work.
Team Collaboration and Leadership
- Work closely with the Senior Electrical Commissioning Manager and fellow team members to ensure smooth commissioning operations.
- Share knowledge and collaborate effectively with peers across different commissioning disciplines.
- Provide guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians, assisting them with their daily commissioning responsibilities.
Policies and Continuous Improvement
- Adhere strictly to the departmental policies, processes, and approved procedures.
- Apply ACWA Power’s commissioning best practices consistently during project execution.
- Contribute lessons learned by documenting challenges and solutions encountered during projects to enhance future processes.
- Support implementation of corrective actions and improvements in electrical commissioning based on project experience.
- Offer constructive feedback on EPC/vendor commissioning performance during evaluations.
Communication and Stakeholder Interaction
Establish robust communication and collaboration channels with the commissioning team, other departments, EPC contractors, NOMAC operations personnel, vendors, and project company representatives to facilitate smooth commissioning and handover processes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Experience spanning 5 to 7 years in the power and/or water sector with at least 5 years specifically in electrical commissioning roles on major projects.
- Preferably experience working on the EPC side during commissioning or with OEM testing.
