About Vrax
Vrax specializes in converting public cyber threat reports into actionable, evidence-based defensive strategies. Our platform delivers structured and human-verified intelligence aligned with MITRE ATT&CK, enabling security teams to prioritize and respond to threats more effectively. Having developed core open-source tools and collection pipelines, we are now advancing towards an enterprise-scale platform with a focus on transparency and trusted data rather than hype or unverified AI.
Role Overview
We are searching for a Technical Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to guide the technical direction of Vrax while being deeply involved in product development. This executive role requires around 70% hands-on engineering efforts in backend systems, data pipelines, and API architecture, combined with 30% strategic planning involving roadmap creation and infrastructure oversight. Partnering closely with the company founder, you will help grow Vrax into a leading intelligence resource for enterprise and government security teams globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and scale the core intelligence data pipeline, including automated ingestion, NLP-facilitated triage, human verification, and enrichment processes.
- Design and maintain enterprise-level, high-availability APIs that integrate with customer SIEM, SOAR, and other security platforms.
- Implement and uphold robust coding standards, comprehensive test coverage, automated CI/CD workflows, and thorough documentation.
- Oversee cloud infrastructure management including security controls, environment stability, and data integrity.
- Craft and maintain a technical roadmap aligned with company goals, balancing rapid delivery and scalable architecture.
- Make critical technology choices regarding build versus buy, cloud resource optimization, and stack selection to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Serve as the technical representative during customer engagements, integrations, and investor discussions.
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers as the technical team expands following revenue milestones.
90-Day Success Targets
- Within 30 days, complete an audit of existing pipelines and tools; assume ownership of cloud infrastructure and set short-term engineering priorities.
- By 60 days, optimize API data feeds, reduce latency in automated data collection triage, and implement continuous deployment processes.
- By 90 days, assist with technical onboarding of enterprise pilot customers, establish SLA monitoring practices, and help design architecture for upcoming platform components.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated track record of designing, deploying, and managing production-grade software platforms, APIs, or high-volume data pipelines.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong ownership, high autonomy, and agility in ambiguous environments.
- Pragmatic approach balancing speed-to-market with maintaining sustainable architecture to minimize technical debt.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud computing, backend engineering, API security, and database design.
- Alignment with Vrax’s values prioritizing evidence, verification, and transparency above hype or opaque solutions.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Mandatory)
- Experience in cybersecurity, specifically cyber threat intelligence, MITRE ATT&CK framework, or SIEM/SOAR workflows.
- Background managing open-source projects or products targeting developers.
Compensation & Equity
This early-stage startup position offers initial compensation exclusively through equity with an executive/co-founder ownership stake subject to a 4-year vesting schedule and a 1-year cliff. A competitive executive salary will be triggered once specific revenue or funding targets are met. The role entails direct involvement in executive strategy sessions, board meetings, and key company decisions.
Additional Information
This role operates fully remotely with time overlap aligned to New Zealand hours. Interested candidates should submit their GitHub profile, LinkedIn, or project portfolio along with a brief statement expressing interest in an evidence-based threat intelligence approach to the company contact.
