About the Role and Institution
The Fitzwilliam Museum, the primary museum of the University of Cambridge and a leading cultural venue in the region, is renowned globally for its exceptional research, top-tier exhibitions, award-winning public programs, and diverse collections representing many cultures and historical periods. The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) operates as a premier center specializing in conservation and heritage science education and research.
The Museum manages, curates, and displays extensive art collections affiliated with the University. Within its Collections & Research Division, the Registrar's Office is responsible for managing the loan processes involving artworks both incoming and outgoing—including collections from the Museum, private lenders, and long-term exhibition loans. The office also handles logistical aspects such as transportation, insurance coverage, and government indemnity.
Role Responsibilities
The Assistant Registrar will fulfill a vital function within the loans management team and broader Museum operations. This role requires managing multiple ongoing loan cases, liaising with Collections Management, Exhibitions, Curatorial, and Conservation teams alongside external borrowers and transport providers. The position also supports the audit and administration of the College loan program. Effective collaboration with Museum staff, researchers, service suppliers, and contractors is essential.
Candidate Profile and Skills
Applicants should possess strong familiarity with the legal and regulatory frameworks governing art loans, including knowledge of collections management, fine art logistics, insurance policies, and indemnity agreements. The candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the capacity to coordinate various loan projects simultaneously, managing competing deadlines efficiently.

Compensation and Reference
