Role overview
FM Conway is seeking a driven Assistant Project Manager to join its Consultancy team in London, based at the Paddington office. This is a permanent, full-time position focused on supporting and leading the delivery of annual Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes for carriageways and footways on behalf of a key client. The role spans the full project lifecycle, from early-stage planning and design through to construction completion.
What you will do
- Take ownership of the planning and delivery of yearly carriageway and footway maintenance programmes.
- Guide and assist colleagues in preparing highway designs, estimates and technical project documents.
- Prepare reports, drawings, schedules, bills of quantities and cost estimates in line with local authority processes and project needs.
- Carry out Designer responsibilities under CDM Regulations to help ensure projects are delivered safely.
- Handle day-to-day communication with clients, stakeholders, contractors and internal teams.
- Support risk management by spotting and reducing risks, recording incidents, investigating issues and contributing to improvement actions.
- Work closely with operational delivery teams to complete projects efficiently, safely and to a high standard.
Experience and skills needed
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in highway engineering within a consultancy setting, with proven knowledge of urban realm and geometric highway design. You should be comfortable working with both local authority and private sector clients and able to understand their standards, operational requirements and expectations. The role also requires the ability to interpret highway design briefs and turn them into workable solutions. A good understanding of contract administration and procurement methods, including NEC3, is essential. A relevant HND or equivalent professional experience is required, along with strong technical, communication and stakeholder management abilities.
