Role Overview
We are seeking a compassionate Patient Financial Services Specialist who will assist patients throughout their financial health journey. This patient-centric role focuses on guiding women through billing inquiries, payment options, and financial aid programs, ensuring an empathetic and clear communication experience. This position is not responsible for insurance claims or billing but centers solely on enhancing the patient’s financial support experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary contact for patient questions about billing statements, account balances, and financial policies.
- Manage incoming patient communication via phone and secure messaging in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Handle patient escalations diplomatically, resolving issues or escalating to higher management when necessary.
- Clearly explain patient financial responsibilities and charges in easy-to-understand language.
- Process patient payments accurately through phone, portal, and other authorized payment channels.
- Establish and monitor patient payment plans aligned with Diana Health’s policies, ensuring documentation and follow-up for adherence.
- Educate patients on eligibility and procedures related to financial assistance programs and support them through the application process.
- Maintain precise records of all account activities and patient communications.
- Adhere to revenue cycle and patient financial policies, maintain HIPAA compliance, and prioritize tasks to meet department standards.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years’ experience in patient financial services, billing, or healthcare customer service roles.
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive financial discussions with professionalism and empathy.
- Strong verbal, written, and active listening skills to clearly communicate financial information and de-escalate concerns.
- Accurate calculation skills for payments, balances, interests, and discounts.
- Technical proficiency with Electronic Medical Records systems, patient billing software, Microsoft Office Suite, and payment portals.
- Detail-oriented approach with strong data entry accuracy and account documentation skills.
- Commitment to patient advocacy and ability to adapt communication styles for diverse patient needs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven team environment.
