Role Overview
This newly established accountant position reports directly to the Head of Finance & Strategy and plays a pivotal role within the finance team. Responsibilities include managing month-end and year-end closing procedures, reporting, compliance, and enhancing financial management throughout the organisation. The position requires both practical financial and management accounting skills and involves supervising a Finance Officer. This role demands a combination of technical capability and collaborative involvement across departments to improve financial literacy and operational finance processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, accrual accounting, and necessary adjustments.
- Develop comprehensive management reports presenting variance analysis and insightful commentary for executive leadership and the Board.
- Collaborate with senior management and operational leaders to prepare the annual budgeting process.
- Ensure adherence to Australian Accounting Standards, GAAP, and compliance with statutory financial reporting requirements.
- Manage Business Activity Statements (BAS), Goods and Services Tax (GST) reconciliations, and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) reporting.
- Lead ongoing process and system improvements, leveraging Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as the primary finance system.
- Support operational management in raising financial understanding and capabilities across teams.
- Maintain and enhance internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise and mentor the Finance Officer to promote professional development and ensure quality deliverables.
- Contribute to strategic financial projects alongside the Head of Finance & Strategy.
Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Current membership of a professional accounting body such as CPA or CA, or nearing completion of these certifications.
- A minimum of three years experience in financial or management accounting roles.
- Proven track record in managing month-end closing activities.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and GAAP.
- Competent in budgeting, variance analysis, and preparation of management reports.
- Experience with finance and corporate information systems, specifically Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, with a willingness to further develop these skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work autonomously to meet timelines.
