About the Role

The Queensland Government is seeking a dedicated Youth Worker in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. This full-time, onsite position involves providing essential supervision and support to young individuals undergoing youth justice interventions. You will report to the Program Coordinator and play a crucial role in facilitating positive outcomes for young people.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver components of core programs, working both independently and collaboratively to support and reinforce Service Response Plans developed by Youth Justice Caseworkers.
  • Offer supervision and support to young people, ensuring high-quality service delivery that adheres to legislative requirements, departmental policies, procedures, and current best practices.
  • Engage with and negotiate with various stakeholders, including government and community agencies, service providers, and families, to enhance young people's access to services and support networks as outlined in their Service Response Plans.
  • Provide culturally appropriate individual and family support to young people, aiding their compliance with bail and court orders, and facilitating their reintegration into the community according to their Service Response Plans.
  • Contribute effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework and case management outcomes.
  • Maintain and update knowledge relevant to the role and actively engage in learning and development opportunities.
  • Prepare and maintain clear, accessible case records in line with departmental case management standards to support service response planning and reviews, attending these meetings as required.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in creating weekly work rosters for young people under supervised orders and bail programs, aligning with their Service Response Plans.
  • Conduct regular audits of service delivery sites and program equipment to ensure safety standards are met and program activities are conducted securely.
  • Participate in training and skill development to ensure service delivery aligns with best practices and contemporary youth justice standards.
  • Foster and demonstrate cultural capability, contributing to an inclusive culture that respects and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' cultural connections.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated cultural capability or a commitment to developing it to foster an inclusive environment aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019.
  • Ability to work effectively in both solo and team settings.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislative provisions, departmental policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent consultation and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in preparing and maintaining case records.
  • Willingness to participate in training and development.
  • Commitment to ensuring safe service delivery and program activities.
