About the YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador

Role Overview

We invite applications for the position of Youth Worker at the Central Labrador YMCA in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The role centers on providing attentive care and oversight for children and youth within recreational settings. Responsibilities include designing, leading, and facilitating safe, inclusive, educational, social, and recreational activities within the Youth Centre as well as other YMCA youth programs. The Youth Worker will also handle basic reporting, conduct research, assist in funding proposal preparations, and foster positive experiences for participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support for youth in recreational contexts
  • Create and lead engaging programs and activities
  • Prepare basic reports and proposals related to programming and funding
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive environment for all youth participants

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in similar youth worker roles
  • Background in community-based or recreational settings is advantageous
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience supervising teams and managing program delivery
  • Flexibility to work shifts including days, evenings, and weekends
  • Certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR
  • Successful clearance through Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector checks (evaluated individually)
