Role Overview
The Youth Envoy position is a full-time, on-location role based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This role focuses on involving young people in programs and projects that celebrate African and Caribbean culture, foster social progress, and empower communities. The incumbent will arrange youth-centered events and workshops, lead discussions and outreach efforts, and support youth-led initiatives aligned with Carifika’s mission. Collaboration with local organizations and community leaders, gathering youth participant feedback, and monitoring program outcomes are integral to the role. Additional duties include creating communication content, representing Carifika at community gatherings, and aiding in strategic planning for youth initiatives.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage youth through outreach, mentorship, or community organizing experiences.
- Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English; proficiency in local languages is a beneficial asset.
- Proven experience in planning and managing events, workshops, or programs within community or educational environments.
- Deep understanding of African and Caribbean cultural backgrounds, histories, and social matters, with a dedication to cultural preservation and empowerment.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities, adept at handling multiple responsibilities and working independently on-site.
- Collaborative approach with skills to foster productive relationships among community members, partners, and stakeholders.
- Basic proficiency with digital tools including email, document editing, and social media platforms for outreach and communication.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fields such as social sciences, education, community development, international relations, or related disciplines is preferred.
- Experience in non-profit environments or youth-centric initiatives focused on Africa or the diaspora is advantageous.
