Job description
About the role
Amazon is looking for a Workplace Health & Safety Specialist to help strengthen its goal of being the safest workplace across all industries it operates in. In this role, you will act as the site-level safety lead, using practical safety methods, data insights, and people-focused approaches to improve workplace conditions and protect employees so they can go home safely each day. The position is centered on building a strong safety culture while supporting both operational performance and employee wellbeing.
What you will do
You will own and support safety program execution at the building level by carrying out routine audits, reviewing incidents, identifying risks, and helping put preventive actions in place. A major part of the role involves delivering safety training, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and turning safety data into clear actions that reduce injury risk.
You will also serve as a trusted safety partner for associates and leadership. That means coaching teams, reinforcing safe behaviors, encouraging open communication, and helping safety become part of everyday work habits. You will build relationships across the site and use your judgment, analysis, and communication skills to influence positive change.
Additional job requirements
- The role requires lifting objects weighing up to 49 pounds and regularly involves pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, and reaching.
- You should be prepared to stand or walk for as long as 12 hours during a shift.
- The work environment may include changing noise levels.
- Conditions may vary with temperature and weather, including outdoor loading areas at delivery stations.
- The job may require repeated stair climbing and descending at sites where stairs are present.
- Flexible availability is needed for day, night, and weekend shifts.
Basic qualifications
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910, and at least one of the following: 1 year of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety-related field, a bachelor’s degree in an EHS-relevant discipline, or 6 months of experience in a safety-related role within Amazon. Candidates must also be comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional setting and able to maintain confidentiality in matters involving security or personnel issues.
Preferred qualifications
Additional strengths include experience handling workers’ compensation cases, a bachelor’s degree or higher preferably in a safety-related field, strong communication and teamwork abilities, sound judgment and analytical skills, customer focus, and experience leading people or teams. Familiarity with accident analysis, process and machinery safety reviews, and job hazard or job safety analysis is also valuable. Experience in emergency response, along with current First Aid and CPR certification, is preferred.
Compensation and benefits
The posted base pay range for this role is CAD 29.00 to CAD 40.00 per hour. Amazon notes that total compensation may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units, with final pay determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
Benefits include medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D insurance, Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional health and wellbeing resources.
Equal opportunity and accommodations
Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. If you need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application or hiring process, including interview or onboarding support, accommodation details are available through Amazon’s hiring support process.
