Job description
Role Overview
Amazon is seeking a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to partner closely with the Site Operations team, ensuring adherence to safety policies and compliance with applicable local and regional regulations. Using lean principles and continuous improvement techniques such as kaizens, the WHS Officer will lead initiatives aimed at minimizing conditional and ergonomic risks, fostering a safe and healthy environment for all associates.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all Amazon WHS standards and policies by providing expert guidance and oversight.
- Evaluate site safety performance against established requirements and devise plans to address any deficiencies.
- Deliver timely, high-quality projects aimed at improving operational safety.
- Analyze safety metrics and trends in incidents weekly and monthly to allocate resources effectively to high-risk areas.
- Conduct thorough incident investigations and ensure closure of corrective and preventive actions.
- Perform frequent safety audits to identify non-compliance in equipment or processes and implement risk mitigation solutions.
- Audit record-keeping to ensure alignment with global WHS standards as well as local regulations.
- Review workplace organization and employee behaviors to maintain accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring techniques.
- Lead and mentor safety team members within assigned facilities.
- Ensure all site leadership and staff are trained and knowledgeable regarding their safety responsibilities under relevant policies.
- Audit the quality and delivery of safety training, including trainer qualifications and effectiveness.
- Manage PPE inventory in coordination with procurement teams to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with facility teams to maintain preventive maintenance of fire protection and emergency equipment.
- Ensure fulfillment of basic fire fighting and first aid training requirements.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Proficient in English communication, both written and spoken, to effectively engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Certified in NEBOSH or IOSH.
Preferred Qualifications:
- More than 2 years’ experience with increasing responsibility in WHS or environmental programs within manufacturing, production, or service operations.
- Proficient in identifying data inaccuracies, root cause analysis, escalation planning, or implementing process improvements through automation and analysis.
- Experience in emergency response protocols.
- Familiarity with lean process improvements, Six Sigma methodologies, or related metrics to enhance process efficiency in logistics, forecasting, planning, or operations.
- Capable of managing workload effectively in fast-paced and high-stress environments.
Additional Information
The WHS Officer will be a member of the WHS team, reporting directly to the site WHS manager. Flexibility to work both day and night shifts is required. Candidates must have a comprehensive understanding of local and regional safety regulations and company policies.
