The role focuses on improving workplace safety through lean methods, continuous improvement, and kaizen-based initiatives that help lower conditional and ergonomic risks for associates.

This position calls for someone who can earn the confidence of operations leaders, promote safer ways of working, and support decisions with risk assessments and safety data analysis. The officer will also help site teams adopt and sustain safety standards while contributing to a safer and healthier working environment.

The WHS Officer is part of the site WHS team and reports to the site WHS Manager. The role requires flexibility to work in shifts.

What you will do

  • Support the site in following all applicable WHS standards and policies.
  • Track site performance against safety policy requirements and create action plans to close any gaps.
  • Deliver projects for Operations on time and with quality.
  • Review safety data and weekly/monthly incident trends to identify high-risk areas and guide resource allocation.
  • Handle incident investigations and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed.
  • Carry out frequent safety inspections to spot unsafe equipment or processes.
  • Put controls in place to remove or reduce exposure to safety risks and prevent injuries.
  • Check record-keeping practices to make sure entries align with global WHS standards and local rules.
  • Review site organization and associate behavior to keep training, auditing, and scoring methods accurate and consistent.
  • Lead and coach Safety Associates at the facility during peak periods.
  • Spend time on site gathering feedback from safety teams, associates, and leaders, and keep communication open on improvement actions and their status.
  • Ensure leaders and associates understand their responsibilities under each safety policy.
  • Review the quality, delivery, trainer qualification, and effectiveness of mandatory safety training.
  • Maintain PPE inventory, coordinate with procurement for ordering, and ensure PPE compliance on site.
  • Apply best practices at the site and support PIT and yard safety systems.
  • Ensure proper use of the Work Permit System.
  • Implement safe contractor management practices.
  • Maintain the safety training calendar and deliver training as scheduled.
  • Work with the facility team to support preventive maintenance of fire protection and emergency equipment.
  • Ensure fire-fighting and first-aid training requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Experience in WHS or a WHS-related qualification.
  • Professional experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Availability for flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Good understanding of local and regional regulations, company policy, environmental safety, and ergonomics.

Preferred background

  • 1 to 3 years of increasing responsibility in safety or environmental programs within manufacturing, production, or service operations.
  • Ability to assess accident data, new processes, and machinery for safety risks and perform job hazard and job safety analyses.
  • Experience in emergency response and current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Hands-on experience applying lean principles and process improvement in an operational setting.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving environments with changing priorities and direction.
