About Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children

Role Overview

This permanent full-time role is with the Care & Protection team at our Ōtāhuhu site. If you want to contribute positively to the lives of New Zealand's children, youth, families, and communities, join our supportive and engaging team to enhance your administrative skills while helping deliver statutory care and protection services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the administrative requirements of Social Work staff, including aiding financial plan management, data gathering, and scheduling activities.
  • Communicate and coordinate with vendors, casual employees, and other key stakeholders.
  • Engage effectively with diverse cultural groups and individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Handle room reservations, manage phone calls, and provide reception assistance.
  • Organize welcome ceremonies (whakatau) for new employees and families as necessary.
  • Respond calmly and professionally in emergency or critical situations.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Possession of a full, clean New Zealand driver's license.
  • Commitment to supporting Health and Safety practices across the team.
  • Competence in administration tasks such as typing, reporting, and responding to site needs.
  • Awareness of cultural values and an understanding of Tikanga Māori principles.
  • A strong dedication to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Excellent time management abilities.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices, particularly Māori tikanga and Pacific peoples' cultural norms.
