Role overview
Ventia is looking for an experienced Wireless Technician / Mobile Rigger to support its telecommunications operations across the South Island, with the base location in Christchurch. This is a practical, field-based position centered on tower rigging, mobile site upgrades, and ongoing maintenance of cell infrastructure.
What you will do
- Carry out climbing and rigging work on telecom towers and poles.
- Install, upgrade, and maintain mobile cell site infrastructure.
- Work with telecommunications hardware from Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei.
- Complete installations and connections while working at height.
- Support tower enhancements, structural installation work, and new site builds.
- Investigate faults and perform maintenance tasks to restore service.
- Operate cranes, rigging equipment, and mobile plant safely and correctly.
- Read basic RF diagrams and technical drawings to support work planning.
- Collaborate effectively with team members across multiple locations.
What Ventia is looking for
Applicants should bring strong tower-rigging and climbing experience, ideally from the telecommunications sector. The ideal candidate is confident working at height, technically capable, and comfortable contributing in a team-oriented field environment.
Experience and technical strengths
- Background in telecommunications rigging or mobile tower work.
- Comfort and confidence climbing structures and working at height.
- Exposure to Nokia, Ericsson, or Huawei systems and equipment.
- Hands-on experience with cranes, rigging systems, and mobile plant.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and solve problems effectively.
- Working knowledge of RF concepts and diagram interpretation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical technical skills.
- Commitment to safety and effective teamwork.
