Job Overview

The Water Meter Servicer I role involves accurately reading water meters at both residential and commercial properties. Responsibilities include executing daily work orders related to service connections and disconnections, as well as troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining water meters to ensure their proper operation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct manual and electronic readings of water meters.
  • Troubleshoot and repair water meters to maintain optimal functionality.
  • Complete work orders involving service connection and disconnection tasks.
  • Operate City vehicles as required for official duties.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with E-Coder R900i meter technology.
  • Understanding of water meter systems and their operation.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Effective organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Ability to multitask and manage diverse duties efficiently.
  • Capability to build and sustain positive working relationships.
  • Clear oral and written communication proficiency.
  • Ability to follow directions and manage subordinate staff as needed.
  • Physical capability to perform strenuous and routine tasks.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to represent the City of Laredo positively and professionally.
  • Effective bilingual communication in English (written and oral) and Spanish (oral).
  • Adherence to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Sufficient health and physical condition to fulfill job requirements.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work occurs in a variety of environments including offices, outdoor locations, warehouses, and streets near traffic.
  • Exposure to environmental hazards such as extreme heat, fumes, chemicals, noise, and occasionally cold temperatures.
  • Physical tasks may require lifting or moving objects up to 35 pounds frequently.
  • Occasional work in confined spaces and in proximity to hostile individuals or communicable diseases.
  • Regular local travel is required as part of job duties.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of three months of general work experience.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver License; out-of-state license holders must obtain Texas license within six months.
  • Successful completion of background check and submission of certified school transcripts upon employment offer.
  • Mandatory drug and alcohol testing prior to employment and random testing for safety-sensitive positions.
